What is the normal
sales cycle for your business? 6 weeks? 2 weeks? However long the
period is, it may be the key factor that limits your sales. Some
companies try to increase sales by shrinking the sales cycle but that
requires changing the way your company thinks and what the customer
expects.
It is possible to increase your sales results using skills you already
have. Try this experiment. As either a sales rep or manager, ask the
following two questions:
Who is my best prospect?
How long ago did I first meet with that prospect?
Many times
people admit to me that that the amount of time since they met with
their best prospect is longer than their normal sales cycle. There may
be all kinds of "explanations" as to why this is true but it doesn't
change the fact that what limits sales has more to do with the sales
process than the length of the sales cycle.
